The Charles Riva Collection  is proud to present STELLA / SPERLING, a new exhibition featuring historical works from Frank Stella’s 'Polish Village'  series along with new works from American artist, Josh Sperling. The exhibition, curated by Matt Black, creates a vivid and compelling dialogue between two unique body of works. It is an exploration into the idea of painting and sculpture, adding a new chapter in the fascinating history of shaped canvas.

Why limit emotion and form to a rectangle? Shaped canvases have long challenged the definition of painting—from Raphael to Stella. After his 1970 MoMA retrospective, Frank Stella’s shift to built, layered works was sparked by the book Wooden Synagogues, a gift from architect Richard Meier. Today, Josh Sperling continues this dialogue, pushing the boundaries of form, color, and space. STELLA/SPERLING bridges generations in a vibrant, timeless exchange.
