Overview
Christoph Ruckhäberle: Bäckerei, Solo Exhibition, Sutton Lane. Brussels
The title Bäckerei refers to the studio of the artist, Christoph Ruckhäberle, site of experimentation and investigation.
The exhibition comprises a series of new paintings and large-scale, oil pastel drawings. The works on paper are the continuation of a series exhibited at Sutton Lane, Paris, and at the Migros Museum in Zurich.

The individual figure has taken center stage in Ruckhäberle’s work, and his interest in conveying a dense, multi-faceted representation of the persona has become more evident.

The ‘tame’ representation of mask-like faces (seen in Paris and Zurich) makes way to a more experimental approach that demonstrates the artist’s pleasure in engaging with his subject in a more immediate way. The use of the oil pastel gives him more freedom to play with form, colour and arrangement.
