Nicolas Party Swiss, b. 1980

Overview
Nicolas Party is known for his vividly colored paintings, murals, sculptures, pastels, installations, prints, and drawings.  Party frequently depicts landscapes, portraits, and still lifes of everyday objects, which he strips of their inherent details. Rather than producing faithful representations of nature, he uses these seemingly innocuous subjects as springboards for an exploration of painting itself. His concerns lie less in accurate depiction than in the translation and transformation of nature through colour and composition.

Painterly precision, a vibrant palette, and a keen sense of composition coalesce in works that are both accessible and seductive, while continuing a longstanding art-historical dialogue between observation and imagination.

His work has been exhibited internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at the Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH, USA (2025); Holburne Museum, Bath, England (2025); Hoam Museum of Art, Yongin, South Korea (2024); The Warehouse, Dallas, TX, USA (2024); The Green Family Art Foundation, Dallas, TX, USA (2023); The Frick Collection, New York, NY, USA (2023); Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, Germany (2023); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, Canada (2022); Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2021); MASI Lugano, Switzerland (2021); FLAG Art Foundation, New York, NY, USA (2019); M WOODS, Beijing, China (2018–2019); and the Magritte Museum, Brussels, Belgium (2018).
